Christian Picture Books

Betty Ward Cain has written several Christian picture books, perfect for sharing with your favorite child.

Tweaky and Isaac

You and your child will enjoy reading this singsong version of the Bible story. You will meet Tweaky, the hummingbird, a fictional character who helps make the story of Abraham and Isaac from the Bible to come alive. Together you can sing Tweaky’s song and story and then read the story from the Bible in Genesis 22:1-19. The Biblical account is mostly about Abraham and his willingness to obey God, no matter what. This story focuses on Isaac and his feelings about what is happening to him and the stress he is under. When children are in a stressful situation, it helps to have a special friend to talk with and to share experiences with. Tweaky becomes a comforting friend during Isaac’s uncertainty. Your child will enjoy Tweaky’s story. As they sing his song, Tweaky becomes a comfort to them. What better way to get children interested in reading the Bible, than through getting involves in the Bible story. They will want to read the true account from the Bible and learn about Isaac for themselves. They will want other books about Tweaky. Start a collection for you and your child—you will want the whole set of Christian picture books.

Christmas Traditions for Children

Whose birthday is it anyway? Are you sure your child understands why you celebrate Christmas? Make Christmas special this year by starting a family tradition of devotion time and prayer with learning more about Jesus and how special he is. Together you can make the crafts and decorate your home to show others you understand who Christmas is all about. You can invite family and friends to share the decorating of a tree with ornaments you and your child have made and share with them the poems for each ornament. Start a family tradition of celebrating Christ’s birthday throughout the month of December. Together you and your child can share this special time with these 100 pages of special activities. Have special family devotions with Christian picture books so your child learns about Jesus and how special he is. Christmas is the perfect time to show Jesus just how wonderful he is by celebrating his birthday as a family. Your child will learn that giving to others is giving to Jesus. Begin a tradition with your child of making love coupons for the whole family to give at Christmas time. Their gift will extend throughout the year for special giving times. Decorate your home and show the true reason for Christmas. Use the patterns to make Christmas ornaments of some of the monograms of Christ and together decorate a Chrismon tree. This can be extended into a special time with family and friends. Have a tree decorating party. Have someone read the poem for each ornament as your child places it on the tree. Help your child make an advent wreath and count down the weeks until Christmas by lighting a candle and reading the poem to signify something special about Jesus. Pass to your child a Christmas family heritage to be carried for generations to come.

Building Character

Is your child developing good character? As a family you can help your child develop a love for reading the Bible and discussing how it relates to you. By doing the devotions together—reading the Bible verses and thoughts, singing the songs, praying the prayers, making the recipes and crafts—you are helping to build your child’s character. Share the book with your children’s minister, club leader, Sunday school teacher and others who work with children ages 8-12. These 118 pages of devotions and Bible verse studies will speak directly to your child. They speak to them in their language. They will enjoy the songs because of their familiar tunes with new words, so they can learn to sing them quickly. The recipes and craft activities are simple and can easily be prepared by your child. Make it a family project to share quality time with your child. Although the book is written for your child’s personal devotions, the devotions can be used for family devotions, home school morning devotions, in a classroom or anywhere children are present. Give the book as a gift to teachers, parents, grandparents, club leaders or anyone who cares for children. Any child who makes Bible study and prayer a part of their daily life will develop morals—what a rewarding task!
